At the start of the year I was all set to follow the lead of a couple of other bloggers and read 50 books this year. So far it's the middle of July and I've only really read 15 books through (I'm not counting audiobooks but I may give in and count them come years end). I'm not going to make it unless I lose my job I'd imagine. I'm not sad about that though, and it's all thanks to Salon.com. As part of my subscription to Salon.com they gave me subscriptions to quite a few excellent magazines. I used to read a lot of magazines then for various reasons my mag reading tapered off to nothing. Now in the past 6 months or so I've gotten subscriptions to Wired, US News, Mother Jones (which has suddenly stopped coming for some reason), National Geographic & NG Explorer, New York Review of Books, Granta, and Game Informer. This constant influx of new reading material, combined with my weekly intake of comics which is usually 4+ issues of various series, means I've been reading a lot fewer actual books. I'm still making quite a dent in my Too Be Read shelf but I'm not going to get to 50 books and that's cool. Now if I can just get up the courage to move the last already-read books off the TBR shelf to make room for the new TBR books..
